UU Wellspring Hires Its First Executive Director

laura-smidzikThe UU Wellspring Advisory Team is pleased to announce that Rev. Laura Smidzik, minister of membership at White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church in the greater Twin Cities area, has become the first Acting Executive Director of UU Wellspring, effective Oct. 1. She will lead the group as we pursue incorporation as a non-profit, add to our leadership team, and expand our visibility and our funding base in support of future growth.

Concurrently, Rev. Jen Crow, founder of UU Wellspring, is stepping back from day-to-day involvement with the Wellspring program and assuming a consultative role. 2015 is the 10th anniversary of Jen’s creation of the Wellspring program while she was a minister at First Unitarian Church in Rochester, NY. Reflecting the dedication of Jen and a host of committed volunteers, the program has grown to encompass four separate years of curriculum. In 2015-2016, 19 organizations in 13 states are running at least one UU Wellspring group.  You can read more about Jen here: http://uuwellspring.com/who/.

Laura came to the ministry after decades of leadership in statewide LGBT organizations and as director of internship programs at Macalester College and Hamline University in St. Paul. Laura holds a Master of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities and a Master in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota. Her participation in Wellspring during her ministerial internship was a turning point in terms of her own spiritual practice, which she continues faithfully to this day. Most importantly, she has witnessed the incredible transformation that occurs in those who commit to a year or more of Wellspring.

Please help us extend sincere admiration and gratitude to Jen and best wishes to Laura as we re-organize to extend the life-changing benefits of UU Wellspring to more people.
