Wellspring goes to the movies, by Tina

I always look forward to summer as a time to catch up on movies; there are summer film festivals in our city, the home of George Eastman and on really hot afternoons a DVD and some iced tea is all that calls me. It’s often hard to find movies that are engaging and demanding spiritually as well as uplifting or challenging. I found one such movie the other night that seemed to fit the bill on all categories. The Girl in the Café is an HBO film that actually came out last year, but is enjoying reruns on TV right now. It starts off with a bit of a tired premise, older man meets much younger girl in a café, but the outcome is both unexpected and relevant. There was one simple line that brought me to my knees, but I’ll let you find that one yourself.

I’ve asked other Wellspring participants to share movies that they have found spiritually fulfilling and I’ll send them your way occasionally. Please share those you’ve seen and enjoyed. In the mean time, check out this link for Spiritual Cinema Circle. It works much like Netflix except the movies are chosen to enrich the soul. The films are international and they offer a free trial and many avenues for discussion and engaging others who watch and create these films. If you try this service, let us know what you think. In the mean time…pass the popcorn.
